Theo, Callie and Cleo

This painting was a donation as a result of a silent auction for the Delaware County (Ohio) Humane Society Fundraiser. The highest bidder asked me if I could do a painting that would include an additional dog and a cat. From the top are: Theo, a lab mix; Callie, a lab chow mix and Cleo, a domestic short hair cat. Medium is watercolor gouache on paper. Size is 12 x 18.

Pricing

I prefer to do pet portraits in watercolor gouache or pencil rather rather than acrylic because I can obtain much greater detail in this medium. Gouache is sometimes referred to as "opaque" watercolor. Like watercolor it is used with water, but its consistency dries more like that of acrylic.

All watercolor gouache paintings will be provided with a basic double mat, (white exterior with a neutral interior, unless you suggest otherwise). I use high quality watercolor paper, such as Arches Natural White or Canson in 300lb or 400lb cold press or rough texture. The painting will arrive to you in a cellophane envelope to protect it until you are ready to frame it. For pencil portraits and drawings, I usually use a Strathmore Bristol Vellum, 100lb or a similar quality product. Shipping and handling costs are included in the price. I will keep you updated via text or email on the progress of the painting.

Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for completion. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. I ask for a $50 nonrefundable deposit at the time of the commission and the balance upon your acceptance of the painting via email before shipping. I have a Paypal account and I accept personal checks or money orders.

For portraiture, I prefer close up head shots of your pet or of the person but I can do full body poses, as well. The photos you submit should be clear and concise and void of clutter, if possible. Try to obtain good close up shots with adequate lighting so that the features are well defined. If you are commissioning a painting of your motorcycle or vehicle, I like to see angles that show the grille or tires turned toward me. I think this angle gives the painting the most interest. Multiple animals or people subjects are priced at $25 for each additional subject.
